Ensel Easton Adams (20 February 1902 – 22 April 1984) was an American photographer, most famous for its black-and-white shots of the American West.

Adams was also the author of several books, including the trilogy The Camera, The Negative, The Print, and one of the founders of the f/64 group of photographers.

During his life, Adams trice became the winner of the Solomon Guggenheim award. In 1966 he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1980 Adams received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the American president Jimmy Carter.

Ensel Adams died because of a cardiac arrest on 22 April 1984. All his authors rights went to The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust.
