Steven Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011), better known as Steve Jobs, was a businessperson and one of the key figure of computer and entertainment industries, co-founder of Apple Inc., CEO of Pixar Animation Studios and principal individual shareholder in The Walt Disney Company.
In 1976, together with Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne he founded the Apple Inc. in his garage.
Boosted by the greatest success of the Apple II, Steve Jobs gained a high public profile with cover of Time in 1982. He was then twenty six years old and already a millionaire due to the successful IPO of the company that year.
In the 80s, despite growing competition, Job’s company achieved great success with putting on the market the first personal computer with a graphical user interface and mouse instead of the command line. After having problems with the top management of the company he founded, Job left Apple Computer in 1985. That same year President Ronald Reagan awarded him the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. In 1997, he returned in to the company, which had serious financial difficulties, and served as its CEO until August 24, 2011. That summer Apple became the world most valuable company in terms of market capitalization, passing Exxon Mobil.
Steve Jobs died at his California home around three pm on October 5, 2011, at the age of 56, as a result of respiratory failure resulting from metastases of pancreatic cancer that was discovered in 2004, for which in 2009 had received a liver transplant. On October, he was buried in a non-denominational cemetery (Alta Mesa Memorial Park) in Santa Clara, California.
