Introduction

Nowadays, the threat of bombing should be taken into consideration as a potential threat, which different areas of the US are exposed to. At the same time, this is one of the most serious threats because it is practically impossible to foresee or forecast when it may occur. It is obvious that public places and public institutions are particularly susceptible to such treats. This is why they should a have clear and effective plan of actions in case of such an emergency occurs. In this regard, the IUB area is not an exception.

The threat of bombing in IUB

First of all, it should be said that the IUB area is susceptible to the external threats as any other area in the territory of the US. Naturally, it does not mean that this area will be definitely a subject of some terror attacks that implies bombing. At the same time, it should be said that nowadays the threat of bombing is basically associated with the threat of terrorism. In actuality, in spite of the numerous efforts of the US government to improve the current situation and make the life of American people safer and more secure, the threat of terror attacks still persists and such areas as the IUB area are particularly susceptible to terror attacks because this area with a large concentration or density of population that means that if a terrorist organizations plan bombing, its effects in the IUB area will be more “effective” because it may cause larger destructions and injuries (Bomb Threat Management).

On the other hand, it is also necessary to remember about such problem as shooting in American schools and Universities. In recent years, this problem has become particularly serious. However, the problem is that such shooting may also involve the use of explosives and, therefore, the risk of bombing is also quite high. In this respect, the major problem is the unpredictability of such cases. In other words, shootings occur nationwide and schools and universities are particularly susceptible to such acts of aggression and violence. Consequently, this is another source of threat of bombing for the IUB area. This is why it is really necessary to take this threat seriously and get prepared to prevention and counteraction to bombing.

The vulnerability of students to bombing

Obviously, the fact that bombing is a real threat is quite disturbing, especially taking into consideration the fact that many students may be simply unaware of this threat. In this respect, it should be said that the vulnerability of students to bombing should be viewed in two dimensions: psychological and practical. What is meant here is the fact that students are psychologically not prepared to bombing and they do not even take into consideration this threat. In fact, due to their age peculiarities, students do not take this threat seriously and, as a rule, they may think about bombing as a real threat to their life and health only when some serious terror attack or school shooting occurs. However, even in such cases their awareness increases only for a short period of time. As soon as the terror attack or shooting is not discussed, students simply forget about this threat.

In practical terms, students are also not prepared for bombing. Basically, they do not know what they are supposed to do and what they should do in case of a bombing. As a result, this makes them particularly vulnerable to the disastrous effect of bombing because it may provoke panic and paralyze students’ actions targeting at the salvation of their lives (Bomb Threat Management). Moreover, students, being unaware of the threat of bombing, do not always know how they could prevent bombing, though this is the most important and most effective tool that can minimize the negative effect of bombing. Obviously, in such a situation, it is extremely important to develop an effective action plan which should target at the prevention of bombing, training and preparation of students to the clearly defined plan of actions, i.e. they should know what to do during and after bombing, and training some medical aid basics.

First of all, it is necessary to inform students about the existence of the threat of bombing. For this purpose, it is possible to use all available media, including radio, Internet, papers, etc. By means of media, it is possible to inform students that the threat of bombing is real. In addition, it is possible to organize some special meeting or conferences to discuss this problem involving student that will make the more aware of this problem. In fact, it is very important because the high awareness of students contributes to the more effective prevention of students.

The prevention of bombing is another important point that should also involve provision students with information on bombing and its prevention. Basically, it is possible to recommend creation of the special training and education program during which students will learn how they could prevent bombing (What to do during an explosion). In this respect, it is necessary to inform students that they should not touch suspicious objects lying in the street, inform police or other law enforcement agencies about such suspicious objects. Also, student may receive threats concerning the bombing, especially if their peers are going to organize it. Secondly, it is necessary to provide students with the action plan that could save their life during bombing. Thirdly, it is necessary to train students to act in case of emergency. And, finally, it is important to give them some basic training in medical aid. In such a way, students will be not only aware of the threat of bombing but they will be also able to minimize its disastrous effects or event prevent bombing.
